Planet Wise Diaper Cover Review and Giveaway! US 7/26

July 11, 2013

disclosure

You may remember my “Flats and Handwashing Challenge” back in May. If not, I participated in a challenge with about 400 other families to only use flat style diapers with or with out a cover AND to only hand wash them! I was very unfamiliar with using flats and did a ton of research on how to fold them etc. I actually found it to be a very fun learning experience!

Part of that experience included the opportunity to connect with a fabulous mom who happens to be the owner of Lovely Eco Chic! She offered a review of the NEW Planet Wise diaper cover! Being new to flats and covers, I was very interested in trying as many new supplies as possible!

The Planet Wise Diaper Cover

The Planet Wise waterproof diaper covers come in a variety of hip and stylish prints! We were pleased to find the “Flame” print in the envelope when we opened it. I have a few different brands of covers that I have acquired since I started using cloth when the Toddler was a baby and these are definitely different. The first difference I noticed was the double gussets. Normally, in a pocket diaper, I am not a fan of double leg gussets because it creates a place for poop to hide when trying to spray them out. BUT in the Planet Wise the second gusset is not just an extra elastic on the inside of the diaper. The best way to describe it is this: imagine a regular diaper cover, now add a moon shaped section on the OUTSIDE of the leg gusset. I did my best to capture it here:

The other difference is that they are sized. You have the option of a size 1 or size 2. We received the size one which is appropriate for approximately 6-18 lbs. (Size 2 is best for 15-35+ lbs.) Size 1 would be great for a newborn! There are not overlapping snaps but the size is small enough that it should still fit well on an average size baby. Here you can see the size difference between the size 1 Planet Wise and an average one-size pocket diaper:

You can use whichever insert you want. I have used it many times over a flat. I prefer the origami fold for my flats. I also use it with prefolds and regular pocket inserts. There is an awesome little pocket to tuck them into that keeps them in place and also keeps moisture from wicking onto clothing! It is rather difficult to photograph the cover over a flat but here are some of the options I like to use:

Overall I love this diaper. It is awesome that it is small enough for a newborn but I don’t want him to grow out of it!  The quality is amazing, even the pockets that you tuck the prefolds under are PUL so it won’t wick onto baby’s clothes. I haven’t any leaks at all and have no complaints whatsoever!

I’ve been thinking about a Planet Wise cover, but been on the on the fence. The cost compared to other PUL covers is high, and I’ve been saving for wool. But they have the cutest prints and best reviews.

I would love to find out how they have done expanding their product line. I only have tried a wetbag of theirs and like how it is put together. I have recently heard of the cover and it seems like they have done a wonderful job! I would love to try one someday. 🙂

The double gusset looks great! I kindof like the 2 size method of sizing b/c it seems like the one size ones don’t fit small babies very well.
