Why I’m taking the Flats and Handwashing Challenge
The Flats and handwashing Challenge, hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry, has begun! Today’s topic is easy, “Why did you decided to take the flats and handwashing challenge?” My husband thinks I’m crazy for wanting to hand wash the diapers “just because”. But I want to prove to myself (and him) that it can be done and that we can be ready in case of an emergency. Our washer has gone out on us twice already this year!!! I need to be prepared!
I have been asked by family members and strangers alike the same few questions when talking about cloth diapers. One of them is “What if I don’t have a washing machine? I live in an apartment.” This challenge will help me gain the experience to effectively tell people that it can be done, without a washing machine or dryer and very inexpensively! You can buy “flats” anywhere and many things are considered flats! A lot of us are finding Flour Sack Towels at places like Target and Walmart for around $1 each! All you need is a few covers made of either wool, fleece or PUL and you have everything you need! Follow me though the challenge to see how much was spent on he supplies and how easy it is to wash them by hand.
Nobody said it would be fun and there may actually be w-o-r-k involved. I want to share the experience and be able to say “I even washed them by hand.” when I talk about cloth diapers to other people!
Come back tomorrow for more because the topic will be: “How did you Prepare? List your supplies, where you bought them, how you made them, how much you paid, etc.” If you subscribe on the right you will get an email when that post is ready to read. (You will also get them for every post I write, nothing else)
Are you participating in the challenge? Would you ever attempt it? Please share your thoughts!
