{Sponsor Spotlight} NextStep Baby Monitors

April 1, 2013

For the Showered With Love giveaway hop we have partnered with an awesome video baby monitor company!

BabyShowerButton3

NextStep Baby Monitors is a family owned business based in southern California. Not far from where I grew up! They use the baby monitors they sell in their own home, with their own children! More than just an online retailer they are also a full service tech support center for the monitors they sell!

The  NextStep IP PRO is the monitor I was sent to review! This is a web based monitor system which means you can view your video feed from your computer as well as your smart phone. NextStepIP Pro can connect to your wi-fi network using Wireless-N in addition to the older standard Wireless-B/G. Wireless-N provides an even faster connection between your camera and router for improved performance. (N supported on 2.4 GHz not 5.2 GHz).

Features:

  • IR Cut- This new lens feature makes sure colors during daytime viewing are true (See photos below). Cameras without IR cut can sometimes have washed out or slightly “off” colors. IR Cut fixes this issue by filtering out the IR light which can distort colors.
  • Auto Detection Alerts- NextStepIP Pro can send you an email alert with snapshots of the video attached when it detects a certain level of sound or motion.
  • New and improved user interface. Elegant and simple, the new interface makes using your camera a breeze
  • More Supported Smart phones- Windows Phone and BlackBerry users can also view NextStepIP PRO in addition to all Apple and Android users.
  • Premium Support- NextStepBabyMonitors supports our NextStepIP Pro customers for life.

Our Experience:

Our NextStep IP PRO arrived very quickly!! The camera was packaged very safely as well. The camera itself is manufactured by Foscam. It was in its original manufactured packaging then placed inside packing foam inside another box. There was no way anything would get damaged in shipping!

Before we received it, I got an email offering to do a complete walk-through to set up the system. (they are even able to remotely access your computer) I was very impressed by this. Not many companies are willing to actually walk you through the set up of their products. The person I was in contact with says they do it all the time.

We didn’t need the extra help setting it up. I will say that you have to be a little familiar with computers to get through the process and it could take a little time. It is something that you need to be able to give your full attention to. My husband had it set up in about an hour including attaching the camera to the wall in the bedroom, setting up the online access with our IP addresses and downloading the app on our cell phones.

Viewing the feed online. You can use the arrows to move the camera, record video, talk to your kids etc!

Both the video and audio quality are amazing! I can hear better though the app on my cell phone than I can on the regular baby monitor we have been using for the last 2 years! I am able to view the feed on my cell from work which is just amazing! There are 2 different apps for your phone, one is free and the other is $2.99. There is no subscription fees it is just a one time payment. The only real differences are that with the paid app you can take pictures and you can use the talk back feature!

There is a lot of light coming in the window behind the camera which washes out the color a bit in the morning.

The talk back feature is one of my favorite things. I can peek in on the kids after hubby puts them to bed and I can tell them good night (I know I could easily do this on the phone) If the Toddler is playing instead of sleeping I can remind her to get to bed from work.

Overall this is a great product that I would highly recommend to any parent, caregiver pet owner you name it!! There are so many uses for this product after your kids have outgrown needing a monitor. It can be set up outside if you are having security issues in your neighborhood. This would have been great when we were training our dog! Using the talk back feature we could watch her and correct her behavior from miles away!!

I always wondered why anyone would need/want a video monitor for their baby… then my baby turned into a toddler, now I really want one! I am always curious as to what he is doing in his room when he is supposed to be sleeping.

This camera looks great, and would also be helpful for elderly parents as well as babies!

I would love to have a video monitor that connects with my phone! I always seem to leave our current monitor in the opposite place I am.

Thanks for the review! I agree, it seems like this could have multiple uses after baby is grown. I would have loved to set this up at my old job in the kitchen to catch when my boss was stealing my food (j/k!)

That camera looks great! I LOVE that you can view the video feed online. I would totally use it to check in on my kids when I leave them with a babysitter. Plus, who hasn’t wondered how their kids get in to crazy sleeping positions? My kid ends up on the floor by her bedroom door every day and I can’t figure out when she moves down there! This monitor would give me some insight.
