Preparing for Baby BONUS Giveaway! Rebel Cloth: Using Prefolds US 2/8

January 22, 2013

One last sponsor in our little event! We are excited to bring you a review for Rebel Cloth! We will taking this opportunity to discuss using prefolds on your newborn!

With Charlotte we didn’t start cloth diapering until she was 7 months old so this time around I had no idea where to begin. Thus began my research into what is best for use on a newborn. There are, of course, several options and each person will have their own opinions as well as likes and dislikes. I have already talked about using an all-in-2 style diaper but another option that is preferred by many moms for their newborn is prefolds.

Why prefolds?

Several reasons come to mind. First, is the money savings! Newborns go through A LOT of diapers! You can use the same cover for several diaper changes, as long as the cover doesn’t get soiled. All you do is change out the absorbent prefold for a fresh one. Considering that you can buy prefolds for as little as $2 each and a cover for approximately $10 or less, you get more use out of them especially knowing they are going to grow so fast! Second, is the time savings. Who is going to take the time to stuff all those diapers? You are going to be far too busy for that nonsense :). Third, is another time saver, laundry. I personally find it easier to remove poop from a cotton prefold. When using a sprayer there are less little nooks and crannies to catch solids in. Less spraying means more time with your bundle of joy!

Allow me to introduce you to Rebel Cloth! Rebel Cloth is a mom run business that makes cloth diapers with a no muss/no fuss philosophy. Denise is the mom in charge and she feels like cloth diapering should be easy, inexpensive and low maintenance. Her diaper covers need no fancy washing instructions or even special detergents.

There are a few different options when  looking at Rebel Cloth diapers. There are waterproof diaper covers, fitted diapers and even custom upcycled diapers! There are also snapped diapers and non-snapped diapers.

My favorite thing is that she will make a fitted diaper (not waterproof) out of your favorite (or your child’s favorite) t shirt! You just send her the shirt and she will send it back in diaper form!

Here is the diaper she sent me to review:

This diaper is super cute! It is a snapped waterproof diaper cover. I will be using some Geffen Baby prefolds that I bought from an online retailer.

What I like:

  • The fabric is super soft and can be washed any way I want!
  • The inner PUL is also soft! I have other diapers that have exposed PUL and it sticks to baby’s skin. Somehow this doesn’t! I LOVE that!
  • It is very adjustable, I planned on using it with the newborn that should have arrived already. But my 2 year old can also wear it!
  • The construction is fantastic. There are no visible stitches, everything is very well attached, including the snaps!
  • The snaps are perfect. By that I mean they are not hard to snap or unsnap and they stay snapped!
  • Narrow in the crotch means more comfortable for baby!

What I might change:

The only thing that I saw that I would tweak is the size of the waist. I tried it on Charlotte for the photos and it was snug. She is 2 now and potty training so it isn’t a major issue but if she were a chubbier toddler it would be too snug.

Overall this is a great diaper cover! I will be using it a lot and would definitely pay for more! I also hear that Rebel Cloth will be in the next Bundles and Buzz “cloth bundle”! I can’t wait!

I only tried prefolds a few times and basically just used a snappi to get it on my baby and then used a cover over that- I don’t really know the name for that, lol! 🙂

Simply trifolded in a snug cover, angel-wing and snappi’d in a looser one, or used for stuffing a pocket diaper for bedtime.

I prefer pockets for ease of use. I do use fitted until LO has pooped though. I still haven’t figured out a way that actually contains the poop in the prefold.
